Mission Statement

To the community of music lovers parousing the dark corners of the internet,

Those of you well-acquainted with the Doom Metal genre will no doubt be aware of Finnish doom gods Reverend Bizarre. Their second EP, Return to the Rectory (now most-easily found as a bonus disc pack-in with their debut album, In the Rectory of the Bizarre Reverend) featured a tribute to all things doom in their song, "The Goddess of Doom". The lyrics included prayers to the goddess, Christina Ricci (let it not be said they lacked a sense of humor), as well as what basically amounts to a laundry list of their influences and contemporaries. An excerpt from the lyrics is below:

Saint Vitus and Trouble, Witchfinder General,
Count Raven, The Obsessed and Pentagram,
Solitude Aeturnus and Candlemass,
Penance, Revelation, Solstice and Iron Man,
Mirror of Deception and Pagan Altar,
Cirith Ungol, Exitus and Scald,
Internal Void, Paul Chain and Warning,
Unorthodox, Cathedral and Cold Mourning.
While Heaven Wept and Minotauri,
Dawn of Winter, Spiritus Mortis,
Electric Wizard, Confessor, Stillborn,
Solomon Kane, Orodruin and Mourn.

These will be the bands this blog will be featuring. Any fan of doom probably knows more than a few of them already--Saint Vitus, Candlemass, Pentagram, and the like are common staples. Hell, maybe you know them all already. But I imagine a good bit of people listening to the song heard more than a few band names they were not familiar with, and perhaps eager to check out. My purpose here is to document them all, as best I can, so that newcomers and aficionados alike can fill in those missing gaps in their libraries.

While I myself am something of a completionist, time and space do factor into one's ability to upload all of this stuff. And in the case of bands like Pentagram, where their compilation and bootleg releases outnumber their albums, you will have to forgive me if the discographies I post are by no means comprehensive. Nonetheless, I will make every attempt to put up every vital release by any of the featured bands.

When this task has been completed, we'll see where the blog goes.

  2. Shame this hasn't been completed, some of the releases are extremely hard to find, and the bands are slowly being forgotten. I would have loved to have see the Internal Void post for example, one of the most underrated Doom bands of all time. You've done some really good work here, I would strongly encourage you to recommence!

  3. Agreed with Tony Doomer: You've done a spectacular job so far. Please keep at it (when you find the time)
